Thames Water Modernisation Programme

Residents and leaseholders may by now have received notification about the public consultation by Thames Water regarding their waterworks modernisation programme. This article is to draw your attention to its importance, as it appears to be highly relevant to the future environs and quality of life in Rotherhithe.

London has long benefited from the far sighted investment during the Victorian era into our water and sewage infrastructure. That legacy is now in need of modernisation and replacement, which will require substantial works to be carried by Thames Water in Rotherhithe.

As the impact will be permanent and highly visible in some cases, the selection of sites will be very important to the local area and environs. The site currently preferred by Thames Water in our area is King's Stairs Gardens, along the river besides the Rotherhithe Tunnel roundabout. This would result in the loss of the gardens and play areas, to be replaced by structures designed for maintenance and venting.

We encourage you to learn more by visiting both the relevant Thames Water website. Our attention has also been drawn to an action group resisting the plans as currently proposed, to which we have also provided a link. We do so for information purposes only and leave individuals to decide if and how they wish to engage in the consultation.
