Rotherhithe has plenty to offer in terms of going out whether by yourself or in company. We list just a sample here and welcome feedback from residents, so that we can keep it up to date.

 

 

Cafe Life

There is an oft overlooked cafe at Surrey Docks Farm on Rotherhithe Street. You can also stop along the way there at the Hilton Hotel, as well as any of the pubs in the area. You can find Starbucks and Tchibo at Surrey Quays shopping centre.

Rotherhithe is not short of options when it comes to stepping out for a drink. All styles and markets are catered for. We list here just a few of the many available

 

 

 

 

 

Rotherhithe Street:

 

  • Old Salt Quay - Lively, varied menus and chilling on the riverside terrace
  • Blacksmiths Arms - traditonal style
  • Mayflower -  history in the heart of the cobbled village 

 

Bermondsey

 

  • Angel - a riverside walk to King John's ruins by the open green

 

Surrey Quays

 

  • Moby Dick - look out over Greenland Dock

Restaurants

 

Rotherhithe may not yet be on the gastronomic map but it is possible to have a good meal without having to venture out of the area. For good fare at reasonable prices you can try the restaurants below. For greater choice or more lavish fare, it's just one tube stop to Canary Wharf from Canada Water or a five minute drive to Shad Thames beside Tower Bridge.

Indian:

Right on the doorstep of King & Queen Wharf is the Mogul, opposite the west podium staircase.

 

 

Chinese:

A few strides along, opposite the Porters Lodge can be found Yun Hai.

 

 

British/European:

A ten minute walk west  on Tunnel Road, is Simplicity Restaurant, which has garnered awards and good reviews for its menus.

 

 

Italian:

Castellos on Jamaica Road has also had some good reviews.

 

Entertainment

Surrey Quays caters well for simple outings in the form of a cinema, bowling alley and bingo hall at Surrey Quays.

 

Social meal while out are catered for by some of the usual chain restaurants, such as Pizza Hut, Frankie & Bennys, Old Orleans and Quinceys.

 

Canary Wharf

If you want greater choice without heading into Central London, you can also try Canary Wharf, which is one tube stop from Canada Water

 

 

 

Canary Wharf is well worth a visit  in its own right. Apart from all the shopping, bars and restaurants, don't forget to just take a walk and soak in the ambience and towers of London's new financial quarter! It's just one tube stop away on the Jubilee Line from Canada Water station.

Shad Thames

 

Shad Thames, which is beside Tower Bridge to the east, opens up even more choices for time out. You'll find the Design Museum there, as well as a healthy selection of bars and fine restaurants alongside the river.

 

You can walk to Shad Thames in 30-40 minutes by following the Thames Path alongside the river or you can drive there in just 10 minutes.

Greenwich

Greenwich, the home of the Meridian Line, is one of London's top tourist destinations and is just a ten minute drive away. It can also be reached in around twenty minutes by tube and DLR from Canada Water via Canary Wharf.

 

Here you will find one of London's best parks, offering fantastic views across London from alongside the Royal Observatory and Planetarium. At the bottom of the park is the National Maritime Museum and the world-famous tea clipper ship, Cutty Sark, is berthed in dry dock beside the Thames.

 

Greenwich Market is famous for its quality arts and crafts shopping, as well as diverse food offerings.

 

Nights out are catered for with a cinema, a theatre and London's premier comedy club, Up The Creek, as well as several pubs, bars and restaurants. 

 

West End

 

The West End with all its shopping, entertainment and tourist destinations is a mere 20 minutes away by tube on the Jubilee Line from Canada Water.
